It was a concert in LA’s Macarthur Park that brought QUITAPENAS to the attention of White Iris producer Lewis Pesacov. They were opening for his band Fool’s Gold. It was a warm summer night, and their infectious fusion of Afro-Latin and Cumbia influences had people dancing in the grass from the start. What further caught Pesacov’s ear was that they never stopped playing: continuing side stage after the concert was over and later on that night at the ruckus after-party.
QUITAPENAS, which translates to “take away your worries” is an 8-piece music collective, hailing from the Inland Empire neighborhoods of Southern California. As a label, we find their entire approach to music refreshing. As they say on their website, they are trying to “revive traditional feel good music. Getting people to dance and enjoy each other’s company”.
Pesacov, a documented devotee of world music, was the perfect one to produce them. He recorded the band live at White Iris Studios in Echo Park, capturing them in their element, doing what they love. We feel it’s important to represent, if even in a small way, the immense diversity of Los Angeles and its music scene. Bands like QUITAPENAS are part of what makes this city such a unique and fascinating place to live and create. “Mas Tropical” and “Que Te Pasa” will be ideal for your parties and barbeques as the weather begins to get warmer. Mas Tropical / Que Te Pasa was released on White Iris Records on February 12, 2013!
